At the UCI Samueli School of Engineering, we believe in meeting tomorrow’s technological challenges by providing the highest quality engineering education and research rigor today. Both in and outside the classroom, our budding engineers discover creative solutions to our world’s grand challenges. Private contributions are critical to the school’s success. We rely on the support and involvement of our community, alumni and friends to continue our progress.
The Samueli School’s emphasis on experiential learning is attracting high-achieving students who want more than a classroom experience. By coupling engineering science-based training with a tactical understanding of how to solve real problems, we actually produce better engineers. That is why new programs, spaces and opportunities devoted to student projects is integral to our continued success. The Student Innovation Initiative will not only house these cutting-edge projects, but also provide a space for hands-on learning opportunities.
Held by our most distinguished professors, endowed chairs are vanguards of research and education. Endowing a chair honors and recognizes exceptional faculty, while alleviating the budgetary constraints associated with attracting top talent. As the school continues to hire enterprising researchers, adding to our already well-established faculty ranks, UCI engineering is poised to reach even greater heights.
In pursuit of novel solutions, Anteater engineers are imagining the impossible. Through endowed research support, our faculty and students will continue to pursue groundbreaking efforts that are timely, impactful and socially responsible. Building on a strong foundation of fundamental engineering disciplines, we have identified four thrust areas to address today’s global complexity: communications and information technology, energy and sustainability, human health, and advanced manufacturing and materials.
The cost to attend a University of California institution has skyrocketed in the last 20 years, and UCI students and their families are paying more than three times as much for tuition as their 1999 counterparts. By supporting student scholarships, you will help offset the high costs of a university education and help recruit and support the best and the brightest students. Your gift ensures the tradition of excellence known to all Anteater Engineers and will help us continue to prepare the engineering leaders and innovators of the future.
Tackling today’s societal grand challenges requires innovative approaches from multiple disciplines. UCI has a long history of nurturing interdisciplinary research collaborations; from its very beginning, the campus’s Ring Road design has provided a circle of schools facing each other. Through collaborations with industry partners and colleagues across campus, engineering researchers address issues that occur at the interfaces of disciplinary boundaries.
